Protecting women’s rights in regional and domestic courts
The protection and enhancement of women’s and girls rights in Africa is studied through the analysis of the fundamental regional legal instrument on the matter, namely the Maputo Protocol on the protection of women’s rights in Africa, and some selected recent judgments by regional and domestic courts that apply the Protocol. The analysis is conducted against the background of the conflict between customary law and human rights law in the complex context of the African countries’ legal systems
